Although there is much debate surrounding carbon offsets, it has recently been effective as a tool for Indigenous communities to participate in various resource projects and shows tremendous promise as a tool to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement.

When people will say, ‘well they should have just protected the forests in the Great Bear rainforests’, I absolutely agree, but if you look at the current reality around protection in other unprotected old growth areas in British Columbia, we see that progress has not been fast enough and will still be very incomplete even if everything currently contemplated comes to pass
